Why Me?

As some of you may know, I have been actively working in the community to oppose a high-density development on the former Channing YMCA property in my historic neighborhood of the Elgin Historic District.

Unfortunately, for the moment, the project is continuing. I have not admitted defeat - the complete approval process was a bit legally questionable. Additionally the developer (in partnership with the City) are planning on developing a private alley that they have no entitlement to. So there may yet be options.

After experienclng frustration with local government first hand, I thought I could effect more change by becoming even more active in the community! "If you can't beat them, join them." After following the "politics" of the Kane County Board, I believe Elgin needs to be represented by an advocate for our needs, and the "status quo" can use a person who is not afraid to ask tough questions.

Why the Green Party?

Core Values. Theirs.
History. Ours.
Our founding fathers never intended this country to be run by only two dominant political parties. In the last few years I have found both parties to be practicing politics for politics stake and NOT for what they should be doing - serving their constituents. They have lost their values and in the process, the very reason this country was founded.

I also subscribe to the same values as the Green Party: ecological wisdom, social justice, grassroots democracy, nonviolence, decentralization, community-based economics, feminism, respect for diversity, personal responsibility and future focus. Like our founding fathers (and mothers), I too feel the duty to become more involved in our local government .
